The pictures above are my flowchart for design cycle. This activity was interesting, since I went back my blog to see what we did throughout this whole term. Every time I made a box to write in the information, I remembered the episode that occurred, and how I felt about doing the process like in Criteria B, I tried harder than Criteria A since I was regretful about mark I got. In the process of Criteria C, I struggled a lot, since I am not very good with software, especially creating something on the website. As I am in the process of criteria D right now, I would like to finish this project up in the best condition, as much as possible.

Reflection                  


This is my project created on tinkercad. The basic shapes I used for my project is cylinder (x4), cone (x1), and ring (x5), square (x1), hello kitty (downloaded from internet), and butterfly (downloaded from the internet). I changed a little from my sketch. I had hello kitty and butterfly as separate ideas. However, in my final project, I added them both together since it looked very plain when I first made it only with hello kitty. This was the reason why I have both of them in my final project. I used grouping so many times since it was easier and secure when I  used one. I also changed the colours for all shapes I have used. I colour coordinated them according to my plan. The difficulties I have faced in this project was the moving the shapes and arranging them into the order I want to have it in. Since, I am not very good with computer, this was a very difficult thing for me to do. Although I did the lessons before I started this unit, it was still hard, when it came to me, doing them alone. However, I am relieved that my project was made according to my plan.

Reflection

The basic shapes I used here was red and green coloured rectangles (x1 each), jack-o-lantern (x1 downloaded from internet) and ring (x1 coloured into black) used as the strap explained in the post under 'Criteria B'. I could not group them, since they all had to be in different colours, however, I connected parts in such a way children can hang from their necks to walk around with. The challenging part of this project was the strap and the on/off button. The strap was a difficulty for me because at first, I did not plan them out completely with which shape to use for this part. After I tried with so many ways and shapes, wondering which one would be the best. After the whole process of researching and trying,  I found out that enlarging the ring shape and connecting it to the jack-o-lantern was most stable and most easiest way to do. The on/off button was also hard because I planned for something like a on/off button for common type of on/off switch for room lighting such as the one in our school. However, I did not know how these work. This was the reason why I decided to make it a press type, each time the you are turning it on or off. Thus, both red and green rectangles are next to each other, which is not something like the one I sketched in the first place, but still functions like a switch. This project was very simple, however, I could have made my drawings (sketch) a little more clearer, and detailed with which shape to use for each of the parts to make it easier for me when I am creating the actual product on tinkercad.

Reflection                   

In this organiser, I used rectangles (x13), thin ring (x1), and cylinders (x2). I grouped the ones that ate the same colour with the base rectangle. I used the technique especially here cause it holds an important key in this project. The difficulty for me was making complete same sized shapes especially for the pen holders, and the three boxes on the upper side. Another trouble I had was considering the size of the shape on the size of the base. Especially with the bottom part where I had to adjust the sizes. In this part, I had to do calculations to get everything right, and fitting together.  However, for this project, I have managed to do it without much trouble because it was quite simple, with the shapes and the way of making it. The improvement I could have made was again, write the small detail in my sketch. This would make the process of creating a lot faster, but more accurate, without much of panicking, with the scale. I also thought, if I knew how to make something to cover this which would make it more like a box, so that it would make it look more realistic. However, this project was made with ease and was very simple.

Sketch for my Syringe project

Reflection
I sketched by first drawling a rough image with a pencil first, then going over with a thin marker and erase the pencil, then finally colouring it in with the colours that I think is necessary. After that I took a pen and started to annotate it. It was not challenging in the process of drawing. However, creating a clear image of the product in my mind was quite difficult. The highlight of my sketch is the idea that the picture moves up and down so that the needle part will be hidden. I think my annotation is good because I wrote how it works and why I made the final product become like one. I got this idea, from my sister who always cry from the moment she knows that she will be getting an injection. I thought if I have a hello kitty, she might stop crying so hard because she loves hello kitty. I then searched up 'hello kitty syringe' and the internet gave me a picture of a toy syringe that is something like my sketch 1. Having my thought based on that, I made my idea clear and started to draw this sketch.

Reflection
The way I sketched is the same as how I did in the syringe project. I draw with pencil first to get a rough idea on how the project will look like, then draw with the marker to clarify my idea, and colour it in with the sufficient colour. I found this picture a little challenging to draw. I tried a few until I could get to draw this one. Although I had a clear idea, it was hard to draw it out accurately. The size of the seat was hard to control too. The highlight in my sketch is that I changed the places to place the pockets in sketch 1 and sketch 2. I also changes the cold to make it look child-friendly too. I do think I have annotated very well, because I justified why I chose to place something in that place. They are also very informative too. I can't remember clearly why I decided to do this project, however, I remember that I thought this will be very helpful if we actually have this, because it includes all the necessary pockets that are suitable to be used in the car.

Reflection
I sketched the same way I did in the two pictures above. Only different thing I would say is that I actually printed off the picture and sort of traced it onto the actual paper. This way, it was easier for me to draw the jack-o-lantern. It was not challenging because This drawing was quite simple compared to the one before. The highlight in my sketch is that I drew the on-off switch separately to tell that there is a switch at the back of the product. I think I annotated okay. There weren't a lot of places to annotate because it is very simple. I got this idea from the lighting thing my mom had bought for my sister, since she would walk by herself, unlike last year. I thought it will be interesting to do a project on this. 

JUSTIFICATION

Justification for my syringe project
I have decided to use sketch 1.
I came up with this idea by thinking of the situation that my sister getting a injection but getting a fear of syringe and crying like crazy. I always hoped that there would be something that will not make kids cry during the vaccinations. That's why I thought of something (character) that most girls like when they are small. The best character I could think of was hello kitty so I have decided to use this. I will be using tinkercad to create my project online. I think I will be able to create this with my ability and the given time, however, I am worried that I might find it difficult to create a hole through and put the colours on them. I can't tell how much it will cost, but it will not cost a lot for sure since the tinkered is free and if we will have to pay, we only need to pay for printing the model out in 3D. I made my project as safe as possible. Since the people who is using this project is the adults (nurses mainly)so it should be safe. I think the nurses and doctors will love this idea because they definitely doesn't want children to move around when they are trying to have an injection since they will be unsafe. I chose this colour because most girls likes pink and purple (colours that I used to like when I was small). The plastic texture will not interest children so that they will nit touch it

Justification for my organizer project
I have decided to use sketch 1.
I came up with this idea because I saw something like this on the internet (SMS). I thought this project will be helpful, and interesting because it requires a lot of small thinking in each step of creating this project. I will also use tinkercad to create my project online. I think I will be able to create my project on time if I could learn how to attach one object to another, not attaching everything but just the sides so that I will be able to make some sort of a pocket, which will be quite important in my project since it will require a lot of pockets. I do not think it will cost a lot, but it may cost a little more than my other projects since they are big. It is a complete safe design because it has no harmful elements. They are made out of waterproof fabric so that even if the audience spills something onto the something onto it, it is easy to wipe the liquid off. I think audiences with small children will like the idea. In long drives, they will mess up the car by taking so many things out. Toys, wet tissues, diapers, baby drinks, snacks, etc. If my audiences has this they will be able to get things going on smoothly even in long distance drives. I chose the colour light blue so that any audience of any age can utilise my project in their cars. The texture will be waterproof so that accidental spills can be wiped off completely very easily.

I came up with this idea because last year, when I went to trick or treating, I saw a boy falling on the road because of the bumps. It was very dark so he probably did not see it. I thought if he had some sort of light he would have not fell. I will use tinkercad to create my project. I think I will be able to make the outlines easily. However, I will have to think of the way to put light into the outline, and again, i will have to make a hole in side the jack-o-lantern to place the lighting thing inside. It is completely safe unless it breaks into small pieces by throwing to the ground very hard. I think it will not cost too much however, it will cost a little bit because you are using the 3D printer. I think my target audiences will be happy and like my idea because this product can keep the children safe from falling on the road when they are meant to be having fun. It will also look cute to have such things like this. I chose the colour orange, black and a little bit of yellow because they are the halloween colours.

BOARD GAMES ANALYSIS

This task was all about analysing the important elements that are required in a successful board game, and what is the MOST essential thing when we have a lot of word/phrases we can choose from.  For this task, I worked with Mille. since we were provided with the information sheet, we read the it very carefully and highlighted the words that we think is sufficient and is matching to the task. I then wrote down the words in the wider part of the worksheet. We then looked at the most essential word/thing that is required to successful board games out of what we have chosen in the first stage.  on the smaller part of the worksheet. I was surprised that there are a lot of words/things that are necessary. That is the reason why we took a little time to choose 5 words/phrases out of the 25 that we highlighted and written on the paper which we thought is the most necessary thing to have in a successful board games.

Criteria A- Inquiry and Analyzing

THE PROBLEM

Problem 1: The UAE Nurses Association claims that one of the most difficult parts of their job is
dealing with small children who have a fear of needles.Although the association has some
tips and tricks like putting numbing cream to partially freeze the surface of the skin
before injecting medicine, sometimes the anxiety levels of small children are so high that
it is difficult to get them to hold still.If only there was an easier way to administer
medicine within the syringe.         

Problem 2: When we travel long distances, we
usually keep drinks in the car. However, it is very likely yo spill by bumps or any other shocks. Also since I have a sister, I always feel this. Only if I had something that I can keep books, toys, pens, wet tissues, etc... It always get lost, we can not find anything that we need at the right timing. I would like to make something that organizes the car. 

Problem 3: Children likes to go out on trick or treating in villas in halloween. However, since it starts when it gets dark, you can not see things as clearly as they can in the daytime. Last year, I saw a boy running and falling over bumps on the roads. He probably could not see where they were. From this reason, I thought of having something that lights up in the dark that they can carry out with them. I am thinking to make something that lights up that they can hang them from their necks since holding type can increase the chance to leave them somewhere.                     

DESIGN BRIEF

My design brief for my syringe project 

My syringe will be child friendly looking. I am  the needles part will be hidden by a picture of a  hello kitty for girls. However, this will not allow syringes to be injected, so this picture will be a slide up. Once the syringe is injected, the video will  be played to keep children still, since small children are likely to run away or move around crazily in order to avoid having injections. There will also be a charm where candies such as lollipops can be kept so children will be happy after doing them, and hopefully come over their fear of needles. As you can see, this syringe is targeting small children, but for pediatricians and nurses who should have experiences at least once in their career, children crying to avoid syringes. The syringe itself will be pink for girls and blue for boys to hide the shape completely in order to not give them idea that it is a syringe. The texture is a normal plastic. I will not add any textures since it is dangerous when kids touches them. If this is used with the cream to freeze the surface of the skin, I think it will work out perfectly.

My design brief for car organizer

In my project, I will include 2 spaces to place drinks in, sunglass holder x2, 5 pockets in total, (including one cooling drinks pocket) and pen holders. This is very helpful when it comes to organising your car. There are 2 spaces to place drink in because one person may drink two. Sunglasses are essential in cars. However, when you don't see them, you are very likely to break it by stepping on it or sitting on it. I will make 5 pockets, since two of them will be closed, the other two will be opened, and the last pocket is cooling box as I have mentioned earlier. Pen holders really helps when you want to do some work in the car. I always loose pens in the car sine it falls, and goes somewhere that my fingers could not reach. All of the gadgets are made from my experiences in the car to enhance and feel better while spending time in the car.

In my project, since it is for Halloween, I would like to have the pumpkin (jack o lantern) on top
which lights up by switching on the switch to on. This lighting up can have a small fan to keep children could keep calm since they always say that they are hot in the middle of trick or treating. The color will be purple, black and orange which are the colors for Halloween. It also requires the strap since they are going to hang from their necks. This way, we can prevent children from tripping over the bumps in the night,even when they go out to trick or treating. Something like the picture but with straps !

Term 1

INTRODUCTION

My name is Runa and I am a student in EISM. This is my blog for year 8.  I have studied MYP designs in year7 which was my first academic year for this subject. . In term 1, we looked at the characteristics of the advertisements. In term 2, we worked on creating a product for tech fair. In term 3, we looked at making a storyboard and Scratch programming. Since it is my second year in high school, I would like to understand the MYP cycle better than last year and know what is actually expected from us this year. I want to improve my marks on criteria D that I couldn't do very well in gr.7. My hobby is cross stitch and crochet so I am not very good with computer. This year, I would like to know more useful things I can do on computer this year. 

In the subject MYP designs, the important thing is that you look at the existing product and design another product which is improved, compared to existing one. For me, it is difficult to activate Information literacy skill since there are many technical words. In the best of my knowledge, a good designer has observation skills and commitment to improve the product.

3D printing brain storm


In the lesson, we discussed and learnt about how 3D printing is done. We were also given tasks which we had to brainstorm on (an A4 paper), a few questions about how 3D printing is done. I found most of the questions difficult to answer since the internet did not give me straight answers directly. This task let me get a lot of information on 3D printing. I did not know most of the facts in what i have searched up because I only saw 3D printing on YouTube, which was a show of some sort so it did not give much information. Although 3D printers are hard to be in a lot of places, but I wished that there actually was one, so that I can physically see how the 3D printer works to extend my knowledge. I was surprised to know that you can choose the material you want to make the product, so that the finished product will be an ideal shape. They examples are; metal, plastic, nylon etc. I think this task was meaningful, because knowing about how the 3D printing works may help me in the future, both when I grow up and in the upcoming assessments. I think 3D writing is amazing because there are a lot of technology hidden behind it. I think information contained in this task was very interesting to know.


EXPLORING TINKERCAD

 Learning the moves
In this lesson, we learnt how to move the shape into different  places, which will be helpful when inserting or moving the objects on the work-plane. When you are moving the shape, you are to right-click on the shape you chose to move and simply drag it to the position you want it to be. It was quite easy, since the steps were simple. However I guess it is one of the most important technique to remember since you can't make an object without moving the shapes you have inserted.


 Camera Control
In this lesson I learnt about how to move and see the object from different views using the view cube. It is placed on the right corner of the website which lets the user see the object from many angles.The main ages in the cube are; top, bottom, left, right. This helps me to check how the product looks like and check if there are any other things to add, take away, move anything specific that would be necessary  to the product I am making. By using this technique, I can also check things that I can't check if it is seen from one angle.


 Creating holes result
During this lesson, I leant how to create holes on the chosen shape. To do this action, you will place a hexagon on the shape you want to make the hole. After that, you will select both shapes by clicking the shift key on the keyboard and click the 'group' option. Subsequently, you will press the button that says tool bar menu, and click the option called 'hole'. This should lead to the hexagon being removed from the shape to create a hexagon-shaped hole. This will probably help me in one of the project I am thinking to make. I think this lesson was important but helpful lesson for me.



Scale copy and paste

In this lesson, I learnt how to copy paste, and change the height of shapes. I learnt that copy pasting can be done both on the screen and on the keyboard. In copy and pasting, all you have to do is to do normal copy and pasting both on screen and on keyboard. To change the height of the shapes, you have to click the white squares placed around the shape (when it is clicked), and drag it so that it becomes the shape is resized.   This was not hard nor too easy. I think this lesson is very useful while I make the project since the range of shapes are not limited. Copy and paste is not very necessary, however, it is important when saving time rather than re-inserting objects form the shape bar, when putting same objects (shapes) again and again
